Jesus "was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, being forty days tempted of the Devil."- Luke 4:1,2

After Jesus received the Holy Spirit, he could under- stand clearly God’s purpose in sending him to earth. Satan tempted him to use the power of God for selfish purposes: to satisfy his hunger, to rule the world without having to die, and to use a dramatic way of showing people he was God’s Son. Jesus’ faith was thoroughly tested, but he remained obedient to God, and the Devil left him. Hebrews 2:8
