"Christ .... being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit."-1 Peter 3:18

In our text, the words by the are not found in the oldest manuscripts. Jesus was put to death as a human being, but was brought back to life a spirit being. The earthly body of flesh suffered death, sacrificed on behalf of the world. "My flesh I give for the life of the world."- (John 6:51) As a divine spirit being, he is higher and greater than even the angels, and will remain so forever. Luke 24:7
